About Christine

Born in Scotland, Christine's parents moved to South Africa when she was 5 years old. Growing up in a musical home Christine went on to study Drama at the Pretoria Technikon (Tshwane University of Technology) and for 8 years took private singing lessons with Sarie Lamprecht. She and her brother Graham were the founder members of the award winning comedy acappella group 'Not the Midnight Mass'.

Between 2002 and 2005 she was the soloist in the Sun City Extravaganza "Odyssey". In 2006 she performed a solo show aboard the MS Melody Cruise Liner and in the same year she received a "Naledi Award Best Performer Nomination" for her work in "Songs of the Mediterranean" at the Johannesburg Theatre.

Over the last few years she has worked closely with pianist/performer Godfrey Johnson as well as performing a folk set with Richard and Jonathan Tait under the title of "Christine Weir and the Flying Lizards". Christine's recently released solo album "INVISION" was described as being: "emotionally atmospheric, showcasing Weir's soaring beautiful vocals and underlaid with thoughtful, supportive arrangements" (Karen Rutter, The Cape Times).

Christine performs a Celtic music set called 'Christine and The Kilts'. The show includes well known Scottish and Irish traditional songs - go to my 'multimedia' page to hear samples of our music.

In 2017 she released a CD, called "Weir Celts!", which showcases her singing some of her favorite Celtic songs.
